Magical Strings West
Executive & Musical Director
Magical Strings West is a 501 (c) (3) public benefit organization that offers an opportunity for committed young violinists between the ages of 3 & 18 to develop their musical skills within the framework of a high caliber youth performance group. In 2018 I began working as the assistant teacher for Magical Strings West & became the Executive & Musical Director in 2021. I direct the repertory rehearsals & privately teach a majority of the students in the performance group.
Private Studio
Violin Teacher
I started teaching violin at the age of sixteen when I was invited to start an after-school violin class at the elementary school that fed into my junior-senior high school. Starting in 1997 I attended the University of Central Florida, where I earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree under the tutelage of Dr. Ayako Yonetani. Throughout that time I maintained a private studio & taught after-school programs at underserved elementary schools in Orlando, FL. After many years of public school teaching, I transitioned to teaching exclusively in a private studio setting. My teaching approach has been shaped by many wonderful teachers over the course of 25+ years of teaching, but I am strongly influenced by the work of my mentor, Sue Mann, whose superlative teaching was an extension of the work of her childhood teacher & master pedagogue, Betty Haag.
Public Schools
Credentialed K-12 Music Teacher
After graduating from university I began a career as a public school orchestra teacher in Brevard County, Florida. During that time I taught exclusively strings, but after moving to California I branched out into teaching band, chorus, digital music, & general music at all levels K-12. During that time I pursued Suzuki training & established the K-1-2 Suzuki program at Oak Knoll Elementary in Menlo Park, winning two awards for my work. After a brief time living abroad, I continued teaching elementary instrumental music until I resigned to create more time to expand my private studio & repertory program.
